The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.
Malawi takes part in the General assembly on issues relating to Africa and the world-at-large, as well of those of particular interest to Malawi.
The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Malawi to the United Nations plays a crucial role in representing the interests of Malawi on the international stage. In other words, we are the voice of Malawians at the UN. Committed to fostering diplomatic relations and cooperation.
The Mission serves as a bridge, advocating for Malawi's positions, priorities, and contributions within the United Nations framework. Through strategic engagement, it works to address global challenges and promote the well-being and development of Malawi and its people.
President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera's address to the United Nations General Assembly stating that Malawi cannot solve its climate issues without multilateral cooperation, the impact of refusing debt relief and cancellation to developing countries such as Malawi, and calls for the United Nations Security Council to allocate two permanent seats to Africa with Veto Power.
